Two men were rescued in shallow waters off the Berry Islands, Bahamas after the pilot performed life saving maneuvers to keep the plane in the air. While the plane crashed, the survivors walked away with minor injuries.

The US registered Cessna aircraft N145TT took off from Opa Locka Executive Airport before 8am and was flying to Chub Cay Airport before an engine malfunction occurred that resulted in the pilot choosing to land the plane in the waters minutes before landing.

According to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority in the Bahamas, the United States Coast Guard with the local police force dispatched aerial and marine search and rescue for the occupants.

The two occupants were airlifted to the United States to Miami area hospitals.

Bermuda Triangle Again?

The AAIA has launched an investigation into the plane crash and stated the seven-seater aircraft cannot be retrieved due to the location of the crash, which extends thousands of feet down into the ocean in some areas, said the AAIA.

The AAIA’s investigation will focus on maintenance, operational, and human factors in the absence of availability of the aircraft for analysis but see rough weather and potential engine malfunction created this situation.

The region has been known to also create compass malfunctions that has lead to several plane crashes in the past few years.
